For 15 years, the International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research, and Service (ICEERS) has done pioneering work around the complexities around the globalization of traditional Indigenous medicines. Founded in 2009, ICEERS’ mission is rooted in ensuring that sacred practices around Indigenous medicine use are respected, integrated safely, and regulated ethically – both in and beyond the countries of origin. ICEERS works globally and holds United Nations consultative status. At this event, we will hear from ICEERS’ Founder and Executive Director Benjamin De Loenen about the organization’s journey and his visions for what the future holds.
During the 15 years since its inception, ICEERS has:
• Created and hosted the World Ayahuasca Conference, a growing coordinated global movement of Intercultural stewardship;
• Helped over 350 plant medicine legal cases in 46 countries;
• Crafted multiple regulatory bills for plant medicine globally through its advocacy work;
• Seeded and accompanied national plant medicine self-regulation processes in nearly a dozen countries;
• Provided free professional counseling to thousands of people worldwide who suffered adverse and challenging psychedelic experiences;
• Offered professional harm reduction and Integration training courses through the ICEERS Academy;
• Contributed to or published in over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications;
• Been working towards intercultural and interdisciplinary alliances of knowledges (scientific disciplines, ontologies, cosmologies)
In this interactive lecture, Ben will share with us about ICEERS’ 15 years: What has changed in the world, and how has the organization evolved? Ben will also present the main programme areas of ICEERS, including: the Ayahuasca Legal Defence Fund (ADF); the Lighthouse Psychotherapy Support Centre; Academy courses on Safety and Integration; Research; Community Practices Program, Indigenous Partners Support Program; as well as the emergent Alliance of Knowledge Systems.
We consider ICEERS to be one of the most significant actors working to advance the more responsible handling of psychedelics. As this is also a central goal of Psykedeelisen sivistyksen liitto (Association for Psychedelic Education & Culture), this is definitely a session you don't want to miss!
